Frequently Asked Questions:

Teachers, librarians, and school administrators will log the average number of minutes their class reads during the school day each week through Beanstack.
Example: If your class spends 30 minutes reading together and students read independently for an additional 10 minutes, you would log 40 minutes for that day.
Beanstack will automatically multiply the minutes you enter by the number of students assigned to your class, making it easy to track your classroom's total reading time.
Boost Your Class's Total:
Students are encouraged to track reading completed outside of school using individual reading logs. At the end of each month, teachers can calculate the class average from those logs and submit the total as one additional Beanstack entry by the Friday before the end of the month's assigned quarter.
This gives every student the opportunity to help their class climb the leaderboard.

Teachers and schools sign up through Beanstack and prepare for the challenge.
1st Quarter | September 1–30
Featured Grade: 3rd Grade
The top 3rd grade classroom will be recognized and celebrated.
2nd Quarter | October 1–31
Featured Grade: 2nd Grade
The top 2nd grade classroom will be recognized and celebrated.
3rd Quarter | November 1–30
Featured Grade: 1st Grade
The top 1st grade classroom will be recognized and celebrated.
4th Quarter | December 1–31
Featured Grade: Kindergarten
The top Kindergarten classroom will be recognized and celebrated.

Indiana classrooms in Kindergarten through 3rd grade will compete in quarterly reading challenges.
- Each quarter will spotlight one grade level, with the top classroom in that grade earning books, Pacers Sports & Entertainment prizes, and literacy rewards.
- At the conclusion of the challenge, the top-performing school overall will receive a school-wide pizza party to celebrate its readers.

Looking for ways to build excitement in your classroom? Try incorporating some of these literacy activities throughout the challenge:
- All-Star Readers: Recognize individual reading achievements with personal reading logs and special prize opportunities.
- Book Talks & Reviews: Give students the chance to share and recommend their favorite books.
- Reading Logs & Journals: Encourage students to reflect on what they've read while setting personal reading goals.
- Reading Buddies: Pair older and younger students together to build confidence and foster a love of reading.

Quarterly Classroom Champions
Each quarter will feature a different grade level. The classroom in that grade with the most reading minutes will receive:
- A classroom library of new books
- Pacers Sports & Entertainment giveaways and prizes
- A Team Up for Literacy classroom celebration
Overall School Champion
At the end of the challenge, the Indiana elementary school with the most total reading minutes will earn a school-wide pizza party to celebrate its readers and their achievement.
Individual Recognition
Students can also participate by tracking their own reading with individual reading logs. Throughout the challenge, select All-Star Readers may be recognized with special prizes and featured by Team Up for Literacy.
