In an ongoing effort to further the impact of the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Swimming presented by Lilly, USA Swimming and Indiana Sports Corp have developed an array of initiatives available throughout the state of Indiana. These programs, including the Swim IN Safety program, launched in 2023, will help teach underserved communities how to be water safe and help grow the sport of swimming.
Swim IN Safety presented by Eli Lilly and Company
USA Swimming and the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming Local Organizing Committee (LOC) launched the Indiana Water Safety Program (Swim IN Safety) in 2023. In partnership with the Indy Aquatic Alliance longitudinal program, Swim IN Safety will teach water safety to as many Hoosiers as possible ages 5 and older with the goal of training 50,000 individuals to be water safe by the end of 2024.
Swim IN Safety aims to recruit organizations to teach programming which entails five 40-minute sessions to teach participants to save themselves if they fall in water. Indiana Sports Corp is currently collecting interest form applications for organizations throughout Indiana looking to take part in the Swim IN Safety initiative. Learn-to-Swim Program
In partnership with Indianapolis Public Schools, Indiana Sports Corp and the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming LOC have created Learn-to-Swim programs at Harshman Middle School and Northwest Middle School for students to train at nearby facilities, including IU Natatorium, and The Riviera Club. These learn-to-swim sessions last eight weeks and will hopefully develop a life-long love of swimming.
Local Pool Enhancements
Indiana Sports Corp and the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming LOC have also identified two IPS high school pools - Arsenal Tech and George Washington – in need of upgrade. The enhancements will include installing starting blocks and lane lines starting in the 2023-24 season. This work ensures that the middle school students in the Learn-to-Swim programs have excellent high school training and competition facilities.
