INDIANAPOLIS – Teresa Ivan of The Ohio State University and Micaylon Moore from the University of Nebraska have been selected as this year’s Wayne Duke Postgraduate Award recipients. All 18 Big Ten Conference member institutions were asked to nominate one female and one male student-athlete for the 2024-25 school year. The two honorees selected were each awarded a $10,000 scholarship for their achievements in academics, athletics, extracurricular activities, and leadership.
Ivan becomes the fifth Buckeye to receive the Wayne Duke Postgraduate Award, joining Trent DiCicco (2024, Lacrosse), Sade Olatoye (2020, Track & Field), Lindsay Agnew (2017, Soccer) and Chelsea Davis (2010, Swimming & Diving).
Moore is the eighth Cornhusker to be recognized with the honor, following Anton Stephenson (2019, Gymnastics), Chris Weber (2018, Football), Cody Rush (2016, Track & Field), Spencer Long (2014, Football), Emily Wong, (2014, Women’s Gymnastics), Sean Fisher (2013, Football) and Katelyn White (2013, Cross Country and Track & Field).
In recognition of the Big Ten Conference's leadership in fully integrating athletics into the academic mission of its member institutions, the Indianapolis Big Ten Community Partnership initiated the Wayne Duke Postgraduate Award in 2008. Over the last 18 years, the award has contributed more than $300,000 in scholarships.
The award is made possible by donations from local corporations and individuals who support intercollegiate athletics. The Indianapolis Big Ten Community Partnership is comprised of the State of Indiana, the City of Indianapolis, Indiana Sports Corp, Pacers Sports & Entertainment, the Indianapolis Colts and Visit Indy.
As a team captain, Ivan recently led Ohio State swimming and diving to the third Big Ten championship of her career in Columbus, all while maintaining a 3.828 GPA in Human Resource Management. She has been recognized as a CSCAA All-American and Scholar All-American, and received Academic All-Big Ten, Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and First Team All-Big Ten accolades. Ivan also has represented Slovakia internationally at numerous World and European championships. In preparation to pursue a B.S. in Nursing, she has been deeply involved with the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital, the Richard J. Solove Research Institute and The Jameson Crane Sports Medicine Institute.
Among Moore’s numerous athletic accomplishments at Nebraska, he was the 2024 Big Ten indoor champion in the triple jump and a USTFCCCA First Team All-American. He helped lead the Cornhuskers to both the 2023 and 2024 Big Ten Men’s Outdoor Track & Field championships. In the classroom he is an Academic All-American, Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and an Academic All-Big Ten honoree. In preparation for a career in medicine, he has been a biology teaching assistant and worked in UCARE Lab Research at the University of Nebraska. Moore’s commitment to his community includes six years of service on the Big Ten Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and being a co-founder of the Cornhuskers Minority Student-Athlete Collective.
“Indiana Sports Corp is humbled to have the opportunity to present the Wayne Duke Postgraduate Award to these outstanding student-athletes,” Indiana Sports Corp President Patrick Talty said. “Both of the honorees have demonstrated impressive leadership skills, academic and athletic performance, and serve as role models for their communities.”
The Wayne Duke Postgraduate Award is named for the late Big Ten Conference commissioner who served from 1971 to 1989. While leading the conference, Duke spent much of his time working to improve academic standards and graduation rates for students competing in conference athletics.
